The rube goldberg project reqirements:
Must fit on a space roughly 2 ft. x 2 ft x 3 ft.
The contraption must be started with only one action, and must continue on its own for at least 20 seconds, and no more than two minutes. It must be able to be reset in a reasonable amount of time.
Must have at least 12 steps.
An object must be raised/projectiled at least 12 inches.
My rube goldberg original idea was to deliver ketchup to hashbrowns, we then changed it to chips being pushed into dip because I forgot hashbrowns. It was hard to get it going and to plan it. The rube had 11 steps, it also ended up being 10 seconds long. It would start with a marble and go down 4 marble tracks and then drop into a pulley. The pulley raised a wire and hit a ping pong ball. The ping pong ball went down a ramp then dropped into a pipe then went on another ramp. The ping pong ball hit a nut, the nut dropped on a board and hit a truck. The truck pushed the chips into dip.
Reflective questions:
What hands on skills did you learn through working in your group? ( collaboration, design, etc…
Problem solving with building, working with partners, Designing what we want.
What steps were most challenging to make work? (How did you troubleshoot or redesign) Getting the marble from one board to the other. We were trying to figure out how to make it work. It would sometimes work and sometimes not. To fix it I made a wood thing for it to fall throue , then we put it in between the pvc pipe.
What was the hardest part of doing this project, how did you persevere? Making a plan of what to do as a group. then we took little bits of the ideas and put them into one big thing.
